Cucumber bending nine strokes
Selected cucumber varieties with strong fruiting ability are carefully chosen. Before and after the flower opens, a 30 mg/kg gibberellin (90%) solution is applied to the inner curved surface of the melon. After several days, the curved shape straightens.
Once the cucumber starts to bend, before and after the young flower opens, a shallow vertical cut is made on the back of the curved part using a razor blade. Then, 1 to 3 cross-cuts are made, each about 0.5 cm deep and 2 to 5 cm long. This method helps straighten the cucumber, and the wounds are almost invisible when sold.
Small tiles, bricks, or stones measuring 4 cm in length and 2 cm in width are used as weights. These are tied to the cucumber stem with fine hemp or plastic rope. When the cucumber reaches 10 cm in length, place the small weight near the base if a curve appears. As the cucumber grows, the weight helps it grow straight.
If the plants suffer from insufficient fertilizer, high planting density, poor light, excessive weeds, or dry soil, they are more likely to produce bent fruits. On the other hand, too much water and nutrients can cause excessive leaf growth, leading to large-headed cucumbers. Proper management, scientific fertilization, and controlled watering (with smaller amounts each time) are essential. Avoid overwatering during hot periods to prevent overly dry or wet soil. Also, manage pests and diseases actively to ensure smooth fruit development.
To prevent premature leaf aging, use a balanced mix of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, microbial, and multi-element mineral fertilizers along with organic materials. Base fertilizer should include organic and NPK fertilizers. After flowering and fruit set, apply 20 kg of microbial agents and 20–30 kg of multi-element minerals to support root growth, provide nutrients, and prevent early leaf decline, which can lead to deformed fruits. The yield depends heavily on leaf photosynthesis, so avoid removing bottom leaves too early unless they turn yellow.
Controlling the yield per plant is important. Overloading the plant with too many fruits can cause stress, leading to rapid leaf aging and curved cucumbers. To prevent this, spray Shuofeng 481 (0.1% natural canola lactone soluble powder) diluted 7000–9000 times (dissolved in warm water at 50–60°C first) or compound microbial fertilizer at 200 times every 7–9 days, up to 2–3 times for effective control.
For mechanically bent cucumbers, remove any blocking factors when hanging vines or wrapping them, allowing the fruits to hang naturally. Additionally, remove tendrils and other physical obstructions that may cause bending. Most curved cucumbers result from environmental stress, temperature fluctuations, or weak plants. Once the fruit becomes difficult to straighten, it usually doesn’t affect yield or profit. Removing the curved fruit can also help promote the growth of the next set of cucumbers.
Rating ruler, also known as a grating ruler displacement sensor (grating ruler sensor), is a measurement feedback device using the optical principle of grating.Grating ruler is often used in the closed-loop servo system of CNC machine tools, which can be used to detect linear displacement or angular displacement. The output signal is digital pulse, which has the characteristics of wide detection range, high detection accuracy, and fast response speed. For example, in the CNC machine tool is often used to detect the coordinates of the tool and the workpiece, to observe and track the tool error, and to play a role in compensating the tool motion error.
