After the apricot tree maintenance and management of new technologies
After harvesting the fruit, it's crucial to focus on tree care and maintenance. This period is essential for the trees to recover and build up enough nutrients to support their growth and development in the following year, including flowering, fruit setting, and overall vitality. Neglecting this stage can lead to weakened trees, making them more susceptible to pests and diseases, which can significantly affect both yield and fruit quality.
1. After pruning apricot trees, summer pruning should be conducted post-harvest. Remove any dry or weak branches, and trim back those that have become weak or drooping. For leggy shoots growing within the canopy, techniques like topping or twisting can help control excessive vegetative growth. Once pruning is done, it's important to disinfect the wounds to prevent disease and protect against winter pests.
2. Pest control is critical after harvest, as the trees are vulnerable during this time. Based on the specific conditions, apply a mixture of new high-fat membranes with fungicides and insecticides. You can also spray 1-2 times with a 500 kg solution of paclobutrazol, combined with 0.3% urea or 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate to promote recovery and strengthen the tree.
3. Soil management plays a key role in maintaining healthy apricot trees. Immediately after harvest, the soil should be tilled to a depth of 5–10 cm. Before leaf fall, deep plowing (30–40 cm) should be done in combination with base fertilizer. Apply a quick-acting fertilizer right after harvest—each mature tree should receive 0.5 kg of urea followed by watering. A primary basal fertilizer, made from high-quality manure and supplemented with some phosphorus and potassium, should be applied before the leaves drop.
4. Watering is also important. Before the ground freezes, it's recommended to water the trees thoroughly to ensure they have enough moisture for the winter. The amount of water needed depends on the drought level and the age of the trees. Proper irrigation helps maintain the health of the root system and supports the tree through the cold season.
In addition, apricot trees are sensitive to waterlogging. If there is excess water in the field, it should be drained immediately to avoid root rot and other issues. Taking these steps ensures the trees remain strong and ready for the next growing season.
