If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you might recall the picture I posted of a stack of free pallets we managed to snag recently! I couldn’t help but do a little happy dance when we got them because I already had some grand ideas in mind for what I could create with a few of them.

Since moving from Michigan to Florida, Brayden and Aliyah have been sharing a bedroom. At first, this setup was partly out of necessity since we’ve turned other rooms into guest spaces now that we’re close to the beach. But it also helped them feel more comfortable during such a major transition. For the most part, they’ve really come to enjoy sharing their space.

Now, while I adore my kids, there’s one thing I wasn’t too fond of—combining their old bedrooms’ themes. Aliyah’s room was all about bright pinks and purples, whereas Brayden’s featured an aqua and orange palette. Let’s just say those color schemes didn’t exactly blend harmoniously.

So naturally, I decided it was time for another project (because clearly, I don’t have enough on my plate already, right?). My goal was to design something budget-friendly, easy to adapt for a rental property (no permanent changes like painting walls or drilling holes), and functional enough to transition Brayden from his toddler bed to a twin-sized one. Plus, I wanted it to feel like a cozy shared space where both kids could thrive together.

Enter the Inspiration Board for their new shared room—a must-have tool for any renovation journey. Here’s how it works for me: I typically start by finding inspiration in something specific, whether it’s a color scheme or a piece of furniture. In this case, I was drawn to natural tones with pops of red and yellow to add some vibrancy. Texture plays a huge role too—it not only adds visual interest but also encourages tactile exploration for young minds. Once I had my palette and direction sorted out, I gathered ideas and resources into one cohesive digital file, which became my official Inspiration Board.

As I dive deeper into this project, I’ll be sharing step-by-step tutorials for some of the DIY elements I’m tackling. And if there are any store-bought items involved, I’ll drop links to those as well. Stay tuned for updates!

How about you? Are you working on a room makeover or have you completed any recent home projects you’d like to brag about? Drop me a comment—I’d absolutely love hearing your stories!

By the way, here’s the Inspiration Board I created when we designed Brayden’s original nursery in aqua and orange hues. It still gives me warm fuzzies every time I look at it!
