Boy + Girl Shared Room Inspiration Board
If you’ve followed me on Instagram, you might recall the excitement when I posted a picture of a stack of pallets we managed to score for free! I was practically dancing around like a kid in a candy store because I already had grand plans for a few of those pallets.
Since moving from Michigan to Florida, Brayden and Aliyah have been sharing a bedroom. Initially, this setup was meant to help them adjust to the big change after our relocation, especially since we’re now hosting lots of guests who come to enjoy the nearby beach. But over time, they’ve really grown fond of sharing a space—though not everyone in the family felt the same way about the decor.
For instance, I wasn’t thrilled with the mishmash of styles from their old bedrooms. Aliyah’s room had a bright pink and purple theme, while Brayden’s featured aqua and orange tones. Let’s just say the clash wasn’t exactly harmonious. So, I decided it was time for a refresh—a project that wouldn’t break the bank, would suit our rental-friendly lifestyle (no permanent changes to the walls), and would transition Brayden from his toddler bed to a twin-size one while creating a cozy shared space for both kids.
Enter the Inspiration Board for their shared room—it’s a must-have for anyone diving into a room makeover! Here’s what I did: I started with a color palette and a pallet bed. I aimed for a light, natural vibe with pops of red and yellow to add some fun. Textures are key here—they bring depth to lighter colors and offer tactile stimulation for young minds and hands. Once I had my base, I gathered ideas and inspiration, putting everything together into a digital file that became my go-to board for this project.
In the coming weeks, I’ll walk you through the step-by-step DIY transformations and share links to products I’ve picked up along the way. If you’re working on your own room makeover or have completed any home projects recently, I’d love to hear all about it! Drop a comment below—I’m always eager to hear your stories.
Fun fact: Here’s the Inspiration Board I created when we designed Brayden’s original aqua-and-orange nursery.
Life’s full of little moments like these—small projects that turn into big joys. Whether you’re redecorating a room or simply tweaking the details, there’s always room for creativity. Have you ever tried making an Inspiration Board before? Let me know in the comments!
