China has made a significant breakthrough in laser technology with the successful development of a 25W pulsed fiber laser. This advanced prototype, created by the Hubei Laser Society in collaboration with Huagong Technology Industry Group, is capable of producing precise laser beams that can drill up to 10 uniform small holes on a single hair tip. The technology is now on the verge of industrial application, marking an important step forward for China's domestic laser industry.
Currently, China heavily relies on imported fiber lasers, and most local companies act as simple integrators rather than innovators. The achievement of developing high-performance fiber lasers not only accelerates the advancement of core technologies in this field but also strengthens China's position in the global market for high-end precision laser equipment. This development is expected to drive long-term growth and self-sufficiency in the sector.
According to an official from Huagong Technology Industry Group, during the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, the annual demand for fiber lasers in China exceeded 5,000 units. With the breakthrough in key technologies, the cost of domestically produced fiber lasers is expected to be reduced to below 60% of imported counterparts, potentially saving over 400 million yuan annually. This will make high-quality laser solutions more accessible and affordable for industries across the country.
Fiber lasers are considered cutting-edge technology, widely used in precision welding, cutting, fine marking, and medical device manufacturing. A 25W fixed laser is roughly the size of an air conditioning unit, while a fiber laser is comparable to a computer server. In terms of energy efficiency, fiber lasers consume only one-fifth of the power required by traditional systems.
