Young tea plantation

After transplanting drought-resistant seedlings, it is crucial to maintain soil moisture for the first 5–7 days and avoid heavy rain. During this period, regular watering should be carried out to ensure the seedlings establish strong roots. This early care helps improve their resilience to dry conditions. Mushroom seedlings and newly established tea gardens often experience uneven growth or missing plants. It is important to address these deficiencies within the first year. Ideally, use tea plants of similar age to fill in gaps, and after replanting, water them thoroughly to promote healthy development. For newly established tea gardens, shallow plowing and weeding are essential to prevent weed competition. Manual weeding should be done regularly, especially in the early stages when the tea plants are still small. Fertilization is recommended to begin in late April of the following year. The first application should be light, using a diluted fertilizer like Qingshuishui, and it should be covered into the soil promptly. Subsequent fertilizations, which can occur 2–3 times a year, should include 2.5–5 kg of urea per area to support robust growth. Styling pruning plays a key role in shaping the tea plants for optimal growth and yield. The first trimming should be done shortly after planting, with the cut made about 17 cm above the ground. The second shaping is typically performed 6–7 months or one year after planting, raising the cutting height by 10 cm from the previous cut. The third shaping is usually done one year after the second, increasing the height by an additional 6–8 cm. When making cuts, it’s best to use a horizontal technique to encourage even growth and a well-formed plant structure. Proper maintenance during the early stages ensures that tea plants develop strong root systems, healthy foliage, and a favorable shape for long-term productivity. Consistent care and timely interventions will significantly impact the quality and yield of the tea garden in the years to come.
