While this makes the feed more palatable, excessive water can reduce dry matter intake, negatively affecting growth. This method was common in rural areas but is now rarely used due to inefficiency. 2.2 Moist and Spiced Feed This involves mixing boiled or hot water with feed ingredients to create a moist mixture. The ratio is usually 1:1. Pigs can feed freely from the trough. This method improves feed palatability and reduces waste. However, in summer, feed should be prepared fresh to prevent spoilage, while in winter, it can be made the day before. Clean drinking water must always be available, and green, juicy feeds should be provided regularly. 2.3 Raw Dry Powder This method involves mixing crushed feed and placing it in an automatic feeder for free-choice feeding. Important Considerations When Feeding Raw Feed 3.1 Gradual Transition Switching from cooked to raw feed should be done gradually over about a week. Start with small amounts and increase slowly. Sudden changes can cause digestive issues, reduced appetite, or overeating, which may affect growth performance. 3.2 Ensure Adequate Water Supply Pigs need plenty of clean water, especially when fed wet mix or dry powder. In winter, warm water is ideal; in summer, cold water is better. Green and juicy feeds can also be added in warmer months to improve hydration and nutrition. 3.3 Monitor Feed Quality Regardless of the feeding method, the quality of feed is crucial.
