Young tea plantation

After transplanting drought-resistant seedlings, it's essential to maintain soil moisture for the first 5–7 days and avoid heavy rain. During this period, regular watering is necessary to ensure the seedlings establish strong roots. Proper irrigation during this critical phase will significantly improve their survival rate and resilience to dry conditions. Mushroom seedlings and newly established tea gardens often experience uneven growth or missing plants. It's crucial to address these deficiencies within the first year. The best practice is to use tea plants of the same age for replacement. After replanting, make sure to water them thoroughly to help them settle in and grow properly. For newly established tea gardens, shallow ploughing and weeding are important to prevent weeds from competing with the tea plants. Hand weeding should be done regularly, especially in the early stages when the plants are still small. Fertilization is recommended to begin in late April of the following year. In the first year, apply fertilizer 2–3 times. It's best to start with a diluted organic fertilizer like Qingshuishui, and cover it with soil immediately after application. For the subsequent applications, you can increase the amount by adding 2.5–5 kg of urea per area to promote healthy growth. Styling pruning is an essential part of tea plant management. The first pruning should be done shortly after planting, cutting the main stem at about 17 cm above the ground. This encourages bushy growth and strengthens the base of the plant. The second shaping pruning is usually carried out 6–7 months or one year after planting, raising the cut height by approximately 10 cm from the previous trim. The third shaping pruning takes place one year after the second, increasing the height by another 6–8 cm. When making the cuts, it's advisable to use a horizontal cutting technique to promote even growth and a well-structured plant shape. By following these practices, you can ensure that your tea garden develops into a healthy, productive system that will thrive for years to come.
