Cleaning and maintenance of the tractor after flooding
Tractors are vulnerable to rain and flooding, which can cause serious damage if not properly addressed. If the machinery isn't cleaned and maintained promptly, its mechanical performance and overall lifespan can be significantly reduced. After a tractor has been exposed to water or flood conditions, it's essential to follow these detailed steps for proper recovery:
1. Immediately remove any dirt, mud, or weeds from the tractor’s body and undercarriage to prevent corrosion and blockage.
2. Take out the exhaust pipe and clean out any accumulated debris, such as sand or cement residue, to ensure proper engine function.
3. Clean the air filter by first washing it with diesel oil, then soaking it in engine oil. Allow excess oil to drip off before reassembling it.
4. Remove the cylinder head and valve assembly, and thoroughly wash away any dirt or grime. Inspect and grind the valves to remove rust, ensuring they seal properly.
5. Take out the vortex chamber inserts, clean them thoroughly, and clear any blocked main spray holes or starting holes using a suitable tool.
6. Disassemble the connecting rod nut and piston assembly, cleaning each part carefully. Use a copper scraper or bamboo stick to remove carbon deposits from the piston.
7. Drain the old fuel from the tank, clean the tank itself, and flush the diesel filter and fuel injection pump to prevent contamination.
8. Drain the cooling system and flush it with clean water until the water runs clear. This helps prevent rust and blockages in the radiator and hoses.
9. Empty the oil from the sump, clean it with diesel, and then refill with a mixture of 2/3 engine oil and 1/3 diesel. Turn the crankshaft several times, then drain the mixture and replace it with clean oil to the correct level.
10. Remove the clutch assembly and clean all parts with diesel. Dry them thoroughly before reinstalling to avoid slippage or damage.
11. Drain the gear oil from the transmission, clean the housing with diesel, and refill with fresh gear oil to maintain smooth operation.
12. Clear sand and dirt from the tires, clean the wheel bearings, and adjust the front wheel toe and steering freewheel for optimal handling.
13. Disassemble the brake system, clean the brake drums and pads, dry them completely, and reinstall them to ensure safe braking performance.
14. Clean the inside of electrical components, dry the coils, and check insulation and conductivity. Remove dirt from battery terminals, apply grease to the connections, and clean the battery with distilled water. Refill with electrolyte and charge the battery to restore power.
