Summer pigs
Boars are fed twice daily, with green feed or a thinner supplement provided at noon. Breeding and exercise are scheduled in the morning and evening. It is important not to spray cool water immediately after breeding. From 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM every day, water is sprayed on the pigs and the floor, and the lighting is reduced to 8–10 hours per day. If the number of breedings is low, the amount of fine feed should be adjusted downward to avoid overfeeding and maintain good reproductive performance.
During the high-temperature season, pregnant sows should avoid breeding. In the early pregnancy period (days 0 to 84), the diet should focus on roughage, with a moderate amount of concentrate feed. Stocking density should be kept low, with 2 to 3 pigs per pen. In the second trimester and during lactation, the diet should shift toward more concentrates paired with green feed. Coarse materials can be offered without additional feeding. Feed three times a day, with thinner feed in the middle, and one watering session during the day.
For summer farrowing, the farrowing area should have good ventilation and be shaded. Sows should reduce their concentrate intake 2–3 days before labor and increase green feed. The bran content in the concentrate should be increased to prevent constipation.
Raising fattening pigs during hot seasons is challenging, as many may lose appetite and growth is affected. Ideally, fattening pigs should be sold before the hot season arrives. If they must stay, stocking density should be reduced, with only a few pigs per pen—each pig needing 1 to 1.2 square meters of space. Use water misting for cooling, adjust feeding times to earlier or later in the day, and provide green feed or thin material at noon. Add 1.5% sodium bicarbonate and 0.3% salt to the feed to help maintain health and digestion.
