Summer pigs
Boars are fed twice daily, with green feed or a thinner supplement provided at noon. Breeding and physical activity are scheduled in the morning and evening. It is important not to spray cool water immediately after breeding. From 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm every day, water is sprayed on the pigs and the floor, and the lighting is reduced to 8–10 hours per day. If the number of breedings is low, the amount of fine feed should be adjusted downward to avoid overfeeding and maintain good libido.
During high-temperature seasons, it's best to avoid breeding sows. For sows in the early pregnancy period (days 0–84), the diet should focus mainly on roughage with a moderate amount of concentrates. Stocking density should be kept low, with 2–3 pigs per pen. In the second trimester and during lactation, the diet should shift to more concentrated feeds paired with green materials. Coarse feed can be offered without restriction, and feeding should occur three times a day. A thinner feed is given at midday, and water is sprayed once during the day.
The farrowing area for sows in summer should be well-ventilated and shaded, with a suitable litter bar. Two to three days before labor begins, sows should have their concentrate portions reduced and more green feed added. Increasing the proportion of bran in the concentrate helps prevent constipation.
Raising fattening pigs during hot weather is challenging, as they often lose appetite and growth is affected. Ideally, fattening pigs should be sold before the hot season arrives. If they must stay, stocking density should be reduced to 1–2 pigs per pen, with each pig having 1 to 1.2 square meters of space. Water misting systems can help cool the environment, and feeding should be done earlier or later in the day. At noon, offer green feed or a thin mixture, and add 1.5% sodium bicarbonate and 0.3% salt to the feed to support digestion and hydration.
