As parents, there's something truly magical about experiencing holidays through the eyes of our children. It transforms even the simplest moments into unforgettable adventures. Last year was a bit challenging because my father-in-law was in the hospital, and Chris had to fly out to be with him. That left me handling everything with our three kids solo, which was stressful but still fun in its own way. This year, however, felt different—our littlest one was already toddling around, laughing and playing along with his siblings, and it just made the entire evening feel so much more joyful. Watching them race from house to house, giggling as they collected armfuls of candy, was such a heartwarming experience.
I have to admit, I didn’t start planning our costumes until the day before Halloween. But thanks to a little creativity and a trusty glue gun, we managed to pull together an amazing Incredibles family costume at the last minute. Since I don’t sew, I opted for some practical solutions. Red tights became the foundation for everyone’s outfits, though I ended up buying the largest size available for myself since I couldn’t find my specific size. For the youngest, who wasn’t quite ready for tights, we used black leggings instead. Over the tights, everyone wore red shirts with black shorts or underwear on top for a layered look. The finishing touch was adding orange duct tape to mimic the iconic Incredibles logo. Black gloves from Walmart added the perfect detail, and for the boots, I improvised by putting black socks over Chris’s colorful rain boots for our son.
To make the logo pop, I traced the design onto black felt using templates I found online. Cutting out each color piece was simple once I had the pattern, and layering them together gave the costumes that classic superhero vibe. Gluing everything together was straightforward, and attaching the logos to the red shirts completed the look. It took maybe two or three hours total, and the results were incredible!
The final touches involved styling our hair. I pinned mine up to resemble a shorter style, while the boys got gelled-up hairstyles that mimicked their favorite characters. Aliyah even got to try out some temporary black hair spray, which she absolutely loved. All in all, it was such a rewarding project, and the best part? Our kids adored every second of it. Collecting candy felt like a real-life adventure, and seeing their faces light up as they ran from door to door made it one of those nights we’ll cherish forever.
So tell me, how was your weekend? Did anything stand out as particularly memorable? I’d love to hear all about it!
