First, the engine section. Second, the transmission system. If the clutch feels rough, slips, does not disengage completely, or makes noise during gear shifts, it should be inspected and maintained before the busy season. The friction disc must be replaced if worn, and the gap between the master and slave cylinders should be adjusted. Also, the free travel of the clutch pedal needs to be checked and corrected.
Third, the chassis and tire section. Ensure that the tires are intact, with proper inflation pressure—equal on both sides. Check for cracks in the wheel rims, deformation, and tightness of the bolts. For the front axle, ensure that the toe-in is correct and that the steering wheel does not wobble. On the Jiangsu-504 model, the front tire pressure should be 80–120 kPa, while the rear tires should be at 180 kPa. Always inflate to the correct pressure to avoid damage or punctures.
Fourth, the steering system. The steering wheel’s free play should meet specifications, and the operation should be smooth. Check that the horizontal and vertical tie rods are not bent and that all connections are secure. On the Jiangsu-504 model, make sure the hydraulic cylinder rod and front wheel nuts are tightened properly. The pin clearance should not be too large to prevent instability.
Fifth, the braking system. Since mechanical brakes are used on medium-sized tractors and they have been inactive for nearly a year, parts such as brake plates, steel balls, return springs, and brake discs may rust or stick. Regular checks are essential. If braking performance is poor, disassemble and maintain the system. Adjust the free travel of the brake pedal to 60–80 mm, ensuring quick response and proper interlock and self-locking function. Both wheels should apply equal braking force for optimal safety.
Sixth, the lighting system. Due to the frequent use of turn signals, headlights, and horn, check their functionality and repair any faulty components to ensure visibility and communication on the road.
Seventh, the body and auxiliary equipment. Inspect the entire frame for damage, corrosion, or wear. Ensure that all attachments, such as plows or trailers, are in good condition and securely fastened. This step helps prevent unexpected failures during operation.
