Several problems in the start of the piggery fermentation bed

Several challenges may arise when starting a pig manure fermentation bed. 1. What does "starting" the fermentation bed mean? The term "start-up" refers to the initial phase of using a fermentation bed, during which the beneficial microorganisms in the starter culture have not yet multiplied or become active. After a period of time, under suitable conditions—such as proper temperature, moisture, and nutrients—the microbes begin to grow and function effectively, marking the successful start of the fermentation bed. 2. Why is it necessary to start the fermentation bed? The functional bacteria in Jinbao's fermentation bedding are most active at temperatures above 10-15°C. Below this range, they remain inactive or in a semi-dormant state, and at temperatures below 5°C, they become completely dormant. At 0°C or lower, they stop functioning entirely. Therefore, in colder environments, artificial heating is often used to raise the ambient temperature to the optimal range, allowing the microbes to break out of dormancy and begin rapid reproduction. This process is called "starting." Once started, the bacteria go through a short adaptation period before multiplying rapidly—ideally doubling up to 272 times in just 24 hours! As they multiply, they release heat, further increasing the temperature and creating a self-sustaining cycle. At this point, the fermentation bed is fully operational. 3. How can the fermentation bed be started quickly? This is a common concern for users. The ideal starting temperature for the functional bacteria in Jinbao’s pigsty fermentation bed is between 10-15°C. In summer, natural warmth usually meets this requirement. But in winter, when temperatures fall below this range, there are several effective methods to speed up the process: 1) Use pig urine to start with body heat. This method is also known as "starting with the occasion." Once the fermented bedding material is ready, remove the bedding from a few square meters where pigs tend to urinate. When the pig urinates, collect the hot fresh urine (typically around 30°C), mix it with the fermented bedding material containing the Golden Baby Fermentation Aid, and spread it evenly. Cover with sawdust and level it. The high temperature of the fresh feces helps the microbes start fermenting quickly. This method, called "foreign exchange startup," is fast and effective, often leading to noticeable fermentation within two to three days. Once the temperature rises above 40°C, move the material to the edges and distribute it across the rest of the bedding to promote even fermentation. This way, the entire pigpen can be activated quickly. 2) Preheat with warm water. After laying the bedding, spray it with warm water (around 30-40°C). It's best to use freshly heated water rather than boiling and cooling it down again. Adding Jinbao fermentation aids to the bedding can also accelerate the start-up process. 3) Heat the barn beforehand. Use fire, air conditioning, or steam to warm the indoor space to 15-25°C before laying the bedding. Then add the Golden Bacteria Fermentation Strains and proceed with the setup. Starting a fermentation bed requires careful attention to temperature and microbial activity. With the right techniques, you can ensure a smooth and efficient start, leading to a healthy and sustainable environment for your pigs.
