Key Techniques of Weasel Artificial Breeding
The weasel is a wild and valuable fur animal with high economic potential and great prospects for domestication. Known for its agility and keen hunting skills, it is highly sought after in the fur trade. Understanding its behavior, feeding habits, and breeding patterns is essential for successful farming.
Weasels are small mammals that are naturally timid and active. They live in various environments such as forests, farmlands, and woodlands. Their diet is omnivorous, consisting mainly of small rodents like rats, fish, frogs, crickets, birds, and insects, as well as livestock and poultry.
In terms of housing, there are several methods used to raise weasels:
1. **Outdoor Enclosures**: A 20-square-meter enclosure should be built using bricks or stones, with walls at least 2 meters high and coated with concrete. Trees planted around the area provide shade and create a calm environment. Inside, rocks, broken bricks, and soil can be arranged to form hills and burrows, with a depth of about 50 cm and height of 25 cm. The number of burrows should be more than a quarter of the total number of animals.
2. **Indoor Housing**: Weasels can also be raised in enclosed rooms made of brick or wood. The floor should be cemented to prevent escape, and partitions should be installed on the top. Nest boxes measuring 20–30 cm in height and 40 cm in length and width are essential. Each box should have two holes, about 7–8 cm in diameter, to allow free movement.
3. **Cage Raising**: Wire cages are commonly used for raising weasels. These cages should be 80 cm long, 70 cm wide, and 40 cm high, constructed with steel or angle iron frames. The wire mesh should be 1–2 cm in diameter. A door is placed on top for feeding and cleaning, while a small hole connects the cage to the nest box below.
For feeding, a balanced compound feed is recommended, primarily consisting of meat, with added grains and vegetables. A non-breeding diet could include: 30% meat, 10% fish and shrimp, 15% organ meats, 10% soybean meal, 20% bran, 10% radish, and 5% cabbage. For every 500 grams of feed, add 2g salt, 5g bone meal, 5g yeast, and 1g cod liver oil. During the breeding season, meat content should increase to around 75%.
Weasels typically reach sexual maturity at about 10 months old. Breeding occurs from early March to late April. Signs of estrus include increased activity, reduced appetite, and vocalization. The female’s genitalia swell gradually, and her pubic hair moves down toward the tail. Mating usually lasts about an hour, with a gestation period of 30–40 days. Litters range from 5 to 8 pups, and weasels have a lifespan of 3–4 years.
Motherhood is strong in weasels. About 4–5 days before giving birth, the female prepares a nest. Births usually occur in late spring or early summer, and pups begin eating solid food after 20 days, being weaned by around 40 days.
Feeding should be done twice daily—40% in the morning (7–8 AM) and 60% in the evening (5–6 PM). Once a week, fasting is recommended to maintain health. Male weasels should be fed 150–200 grams per day, while females receive 130–180 grams. Before each feeding, cages must be cleaned thoroughly, bedding changed, and utensils brushed. Water should always be available.
During summer, special attention should be given to heat, humidity, and disease prevention. The environment should remain quiet during pregnancy to avoid stress-induced miscarriages. The best quality fur is achieved from late winter to early spring, when the coat is soft and dense. In summer and autumn, the fur becomes coarse and sparse, reducing its market value.
There are 6 commonly used injection methods we used : transdermal, subcutaneous, muscle, bottom of muscle, vein, artery, intrathecal . Compatible with these injection methods and amounts, you will find an assortment of different disposable syringes of varying sizes. The syringes with Luer-Lock connectors are especially well-suited for infusions and other procedures, where a firm grip between syringe and needle is necessary.
Safety auto destruct syringe can avoid unnecessary reuse.
