Grape pest control
June is a critical month when many grape diseases begin to develop and worsen. Timely application of effective fungicides is essential to ensure healthy grape growth and maximize economic returns.
In June, it's important to focus on disease prevention and control. One highly recommended product is DuPont’s "Ecopol" 68.75% water-dispersible granules, which is an excellent fungicide with strong efficacy against downy mildew, botrytis (white rot), anthracnose, black spot, and brown spot. Although the cost is higher, it offers broad-spectrum control and a long residual effect—lasting over 15 days. Its resistance to rain makes it particularly valuable in wet conditions. Farmers are encouraged to try this product, with a recommended dilution of 1200–1500 times.
For white rot, several options are effective, such as 40% Fuxing, 40% fluoro-siliconazole, and 40% Guixing at 8000 times dilution. Protective agents like 80% Mancozeb M45 and 80% Chlorothalonil are also widely used, with a general dilution of 600–800 times.
For downy mildew, 72% mancozeb (Copper Oxychloride) at 600–800 times, 85% Dithane at 600 times, and products like Baidefu or Inomil at 600–800 times are effective. However, these are less effective against other diseases. For white rot, Duofengnong at 600–800 times, Trichoderma, or Fumei Double at 600 times are good choices, though they may not work well against other diseases.
For anthracnose, 50% Copper Hydroxide at 600–800 times is very effective. For brown spot and black spot, 25% Benzophenone EC at 800 times is highly recommended. A Bordeaux mixture of 1:0.6:160–200 is also effective for preventing downy mildew, black spot, anthracnose, and brown spot, but it has no effect on white rot. Farmers should choose the appropriate treatment based on the variety of grapes and the specific diseases present.
Newly developed red varieties tend to have low resistance to downy mildew and black spot. From June onward, regular monitoring and timely intervention are crucial.
Additionally, spider mites have been reported in some vineyards. If detected, acaricides should be applied promptly to prevent damage.
By staying proactive and using the right treatments, grape growers can significantly reduce disease pressure and improve both yield and quality. It's always best to consult local agricultural experts for the most suitable options based on regional conditions and disease prevalence.
