Grape pest control
June is a critical month when many grape diseases begin to appear, develop, and worsen. Timely application of effective fungicides is essential to ensure healthy growth and improve the economic returns of grape cultivation.
One highly recommended product is 68.75% DuPont "Ecopol" water-dispersible granules, which are known for their excellent control over downy mildew, botrytis (white rot), anthracnose, black rot, and brown spot. Although this product is more expensive, it offers broad-spectrum protection with a long residual effect—lasting over 15 days. Its resistance to rain makes it particularly valuable in wet conditions. Farmers are encouraged to try this product, with a recommended dilution rate of 1200–1500 times. Other effective options include 40% Fuxing, 40% fluoxastrobin, and 40% Guixing at 8000 times, which are especially effective against white rot. For general disease prevention, 80% mancozeb M45 or 80% mancozeb spray are excellent protective agents, typically used at 600–800 times. For downy mildew, 72% mancozeb (Copper Oxychloride) at 600–800 times, 85% mancozeb at 600 times, or products like Baidefu or Inomil at 600–800 times are effective. However, these are less effective against other diseases. For white rot, 600–800 times of Dufengnong, Trichoderma, or Fumei Double are recommended, though they are not as effective against other diseases. For anthracnose, 600–800 times of copper carbonate is very effective. For brown spot and black spot, 25% Benzophenone EC at 800 times works well. A Bordeaux mixture at 1:0.6:160–200 is good for preventing several diseases such as downy mildew, black rot, anthracnose, and brown spot, but not effective against white rot. Growers should choose the appropriate treatment based on the variety being cultivated and the specific disease pressure.
Secondly, newly developed red varieties have weak resistance to downy mildew and black rot. From June onward, growers must be vigilant and implement preventive measures.
Thirdly, spider mites have been observed to cause damage, so appropriate acaricides should be applied.
It's important to monitor the vineyard regularly and adjust the spraying schedule according to weather conditions and disease symptoms. Using a combination of preventive and curative treatments can significantly reduce losses and improve fruit quality. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and safety guidelines when applying any chemical.
