In order to ensure optimal fruit development during different growth stages, it's essential that the temperature inside the cultivation facilities aligns closely with open-field conditions. Especially during the flowering and fruit expansion phases, significant temperature fluctuations—such as high temperatures at midday and lower temperatures at night—can negatively affect fruit quality, leading to issues like irregular shapes or poor development. To mitigate this, effective temperature management through daytime ventilation and nighttime insulation is crucial.
(1) In China’s peach-growing regions, the average outdoor temperature typically ranges between 5°C and -5°C. At night, it's important to maintain adequate insulation using methods like double-layer covering to ensure the minimum temperature doesn't drop below 5°C. During the day, when sunlight is abundant, temperatures can often exceed 25°C, so timely ventilation is necessary to keep the indoor temperature within a suitable range of around 25°C.
(2) During the flowering stage, pollination and fertilization require an ideal temperature of approximately 20°C. If temperatures go above 28°C or drop below 10°C, fertilization may be compromised. On sunny days, the temperature inside the facility can easily reach 30°C or higher, so proper ventilation is essential to bring it down to no more than 25°C during the day. At night, maintaining a temperature above 10°C is also important for successful pollination and early fruit development.
(3) During the fruit enlargement phase, cell division plays a key role in determining fruit size and shape. Low temperatures can slow down this process, while excessively high temperatures may cause rapid cell division and lead to deformed fruits. The ideal temperature during this period is around 30°C during the day and 15°C at night.
(4) The hard core phase occurs when external temperatures rise above 10°C, and daytime temperatures inside the facility can reach 30°C or more. This increase in temperature can accelerate respiration, leading to greater nutrient consumption. Therefore, it's important to manage the temperature by keeping nighttime temperatures around 10°C and ensuring daytime temperatures don’t exceed 30°C.
(5) As the fruit enters the rapid expansion phase, cells grow quickly. With rising outside temperatures, indoor facilities may experience temperatures above 30°C. It's critical to ventilate promptly to reduce the temperature and maintain it around 30°C for optimal fruit development.
(6) During the maturation period, outdoor temperatures continue to rise, making it challenging to keep indoor temperatures below 30°C during the day. Depending on the situation, it may be necessary to remove the plastic film or use shading nets to help cool the environment effectively.
(7) After harvest, the plastic cover should be completely removed, allowing the plants to grow under natural conditions. This helps in the production and accumulation of nutrients, which is essential for promoting flower bud differentiation. This process lays the foundation for better flowering and fruiting in the following year.
