Four-point feeding technology for meat donkeys

Donated donkeys are herbivores known for their resilience to roughage, strong adaptability, and high disease resistance. They are easy to manage, grow quickly, and can thrive both in grazing and confined environments, making them ideal for rural farming. These animals have a wide variety of feed sources, and even when grass is scarce, they can be fed with straw, food processing by-products, and other agricultural residues. Donkey meat is tender and flavorful, often referred to as "sky dragon meat" and "underground donkey meat," which makes it highly sought after by consumers. In recent years, the demand for donkey meat in China has been rising, with export prospects looking promising. A single donkey can be sold for between 1,500 to 2,000 yuan, and when processed into canned donkey meat, sauce donkey, or steamed donkey dishes, its value can increase by two to three times. Additionally, donkey skin is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine and various industrial applications, and there is currently a shortage in the market. China is home to several fine donkey breeds, including those from Shandong, Shaanxi, Henan, Gansu, Shanxi, and Liaoning. Notable varieties such as the Shandong Dezhou donkey, Shaanxi Guanzhong donkey, Henan Biyang donkey, and Shanxi Guangling donkey are well-regarded for their quality and productivity. In mountainous and hilly regions, donkeys play an essential role in short-distance transport, plowing, and milling. Compared to raising pigs, cattle, or sheep, raising meat donkeys involves lower risk, less investment, and quicker returns, offering higher profitability. The breeding techniques for meat donkeys include careful feeding, proper housing, and selective breeding. Donkeys prefer dried, hard, and brittle crop straws like corn, rice, and bean vines, which should be cut into 3–4 cm lengths for easier consumption. Avoiding half-dry or constantly foraged grass helps prevent digestive issues. Feeding should be done in the morning, at night, and in the evening, with a focus on providing balanced nutrition. Supplemental feeds like peas, corn, and cottonseed meal can enhance growth and health. In intensive breeding systems, shelters should provide protection from rain and wind, with sufficient space for each donkey. Food troughs should be placed to ensure each animal gets enough feed. When keeping multiple donkeys together, fences should be strong to prevent fighting. Breeding programs should prioritize large, healthy, and disease-resistant donkeys that show good reproductive performance and efficient feed conversion. Popular breeds like the Dezhou, Guanzhong, and Guangling donkeys are preferred for their quality. Crossbreeding with horses is also common, and artificial insemination is increasingly used to improve genetic diversity and accelerate breeding progress. While donkeys are generally hardy, they are still susceptible to diseases such as infectious anemia, epistaxis, and tetanus. Under intensive management, strict hygiene and preventive measures are crucial to maintain health and avoid outbreaks. A proactive approach to disease prevention ensures long-term success in meat donkey farming.

Pelvic Plate

Due to the irregular characteristics of the pelvic structure, the choice of internal fixation is diverse.

For patients separated symphysis pubis, a 2 or 4 holes, 4.5 or 3.5mm diameter dynamic compression plate or reconstruction plate can be used and fixed with full-thread cancellous bone screws.Another method of fixation is lag screw fixation. In patients with new sacroiliac joint dislocation with a forward approach, firm fixation can be achieved by using 2holes 3.5mm dynamic compression plates through the front of the sacroiliac joint. The posterior approach can also be used to insert 6.5mm lag screws into the sacral wings or hollow cancellous bone screws with interosseous compression for firm internal fixation. If available, the fracture may be fixed with 3.5mm or 4.5mm pelvic reconstruction plates and appropriate full-thread cancellous bone screws.
