Fry Fry Breeding Science

The choice of bait plays a crucial role in the breeding of clams. Whether or not scientific feeding practices can be implemented is a key technology that directly impacts the growth and quality of seedlings. To ensure optimal development, we will introduce a scientifically managed feeding strategy tailored for seedling cultivation. Like other aquatic organisms, feeding should follow four basic principles: qualitative, quantitative, timing, and positioning. However, these principles have unique applications when it comes to seedling care. First, the principle of **qualitative feeding**. Seedlings require not only energy for weight gain but also essential nutrients for the development of their internal organs. Therefore, the quality of feed is of utmost importance. While there are many commercial feeds available on the market, they often go through extensive processing, which may reduce the levels of certain active nutrients. To compensate, additional natural ingredients such as fresh carrots, eggs, calcium milk powder, fish, and red worms can be added—approximately 5% to 10% of the daily dry feed amount. These supplements should be processed into a pulp or crushed and mixed thoroughly with commercial feed before being formed into pellets for feeding. Second, the principle of **quantitative feeding**. It's important that seedlings eat well without overfeeding. A bait rate of 5% is recommended. Although this seems high, the total amount remains manageable and minimizes waste. For example, in a 20m² pond with 500 seedlings each weighing 4g (totaling 2000g), 5% of 2000g equals 100g of feed. Even if some is wasted, the impact on water quality remains minimal. At this stage, the goal is to encourage strong feeding behavior rather than overeating. The actual feeding amount should be adjusted by ±5% depending on how much the seedlings consume at each meal. Third, the principle of **timing**. Feeding should occur at specific times throughout the day. Due to the sensitivity of seedlings, frequent, short feedings are more effective. We recommend feeding four times a day—at 5 a.m., 10 a.m., 3 p.m., and 8 p.m. Each feeding session should last about an hour, during which the seedlings’ eating behavior is observed to determine the next feeding time. Fourth, the principle of **positioning**. Feeding location is also critical. Currently, 1.8x1 meter high-quality corrugated cement tiles are used as feeding platforms. To help seedlings gather food efficiently, one tile is placed per 200 seedlings. When feeding, the bait should be evenly spread on the tile to ensure all seedlings have access. Additionally, these cement tiles serve as both feeding areas and habitats, providing a stable environment for the seedlings to grow.
