Wuhan exposure illegal advertising Neck Fu Kang Jing Xiu Tang are on the list
In August 2009, the Wuhan Food and Drug Administration released a report on illegal advertisements for drugs, medical devices, and health products. The report listed 33 serious violations, which were then forwarded to the industrial and commercial authorities for further investigation. These ads were found to be in clear violation of advertising regulations, with many making false or misleading claims.
Several pharmaceutical companies were implicated in the illegal drug advertisements. Among them were Qinghai Plant Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., which produced Cordyceps Qingfei Capsules and Shiwei Frankincense Capsules. Another company, Qinghai Chaidamu High-tech Medicine, was involved with Zhuoyan Danjiu Lodi Mingmu Pill. Xinjiang Huakang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. marketed Yin Duolan (Bai Xia Xia Hot Film), while Shanxi Tianxing Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. produced tablets. Chengde Neck Rehabilitation Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. was linked to Antshen Capsules, and Qinghai Jinqi Tibetan Medicine Co., Ltd. was also named. Other companies included Zhuhai Dashi, Jinan Sanfu Fuer Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Jingxiutang (Pharmaceutical Industry Co., Ltd.), Tonghua Yusheng Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Tonghua Shengsheng Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Jilin Henghe Weikang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Chongqing Xi'an Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Guangdong Huatianbao Group Co., Ltd., Harbin Pharmaceutical Group Shiyitang Pharmaceutical Factory, Shaanxi Dongtai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and Guangxi Guixi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The common violations included exaggerated claims about the drug’s indications, unscientific efficacy guarantees, use of expert testimonials or patient images, and unauthorized promotion of prescription drugs in mass media.
Regarding medical device advertisements, two products were flagged: E-mirror (near-vision regression mirror) by Shaanxi Aotong Technology Co., Ltd., and Zhonghua Cong ear sticker and Haike Christie (shaped contact lens) by Sanmenxia Boke Medical Devices Co., Ltd. and Technology Investment Co., Ltd. These ads were found to have overreached in their claims, presenting unverified effectiveness and misrepresenting the product's intended use.
In the health food category, several products were identified as violating advertising rules. These included Guyou Jinyu brand Wanshi granules, Zhinitang propolis (known as beetang royal jelly), Shengshou brand capsule, Yushengtang intestinal tea, Changjin (Shengsheng Jiubao Capsule), Ant Jintong (Oriental Son Brand Ant Capsule), Qiqipai Brand Beauty Soft Capsule, and Chi Li Tablet. The violations included exaggerated health benefits, using consumer testimonials, and making unscientific claims about the product's effectiveness.
Overall, these cases highlight the need for stricter enforcement of advertising laws to protect consumers from misleading information. The authorities continue to monitor and take action against such violations to ensure public safety and trust in the healthcare industry.
