Walnut tree safe winter method
Walnut trees generally take cold-proof measures from mid-November to early December.
1, buried in the cold
For the 1~2 year old saplings where the open field cannot be safely wintered, the whole tree body is bent to one side and covered with soil. This method is the most effective and reliable measure for preventing and controlling the pumping.
2, soil and cold protection
A mound of soil is cultivated within 30 cm of the base of the seedling to prevent frostbite and neck joints. In the coming spring, when the temperature rises and stabilizes, it is removed and the tree is flattened.
3, painted white and cold
Whitening of young trees can alleviate the temperature difference between the yin and yang of the trunk, and the cold-proof effect is better. It can be applied before the soil is frozen. The formula of the whitening agent is: 0.5 kg of salt, 6 kg of quicklime, 15 kg of fresh water, and then added with a proper amount of adhesive and residue of stone sulphur mixture to spread the young branches.
4. Spray the tree trunk and branches with the tree-protecting general emulsion 100 times solution (50 kg). The film-forming material can protect the flower buds and branches from wintering and avoid freezing damage.
Due to the large core of the walnut branches, high water content and poor cold resistance, it is vulnerable to freezing damage in cold and dry areas in the north, causing the branches to dry up. Therefore, in order to ensure the normal growth of saplings and prevent freezing damage, winter cold-proof work should be strengthened to mitigate the hazards.
