Winter lambs increase survival rate

Effective management can reduce the mortality rate of lambs. In winter, many sheep farmers cannot be effectively managed due to the influence of labor, financial resources, and scientific and technological knowledge. Due to poor sanitary conditions, the shedding density of herding sheep, excessively long time, short grazing time and other reasons can lead to lack of sheep movement and illumination. Therefore, ewes and lambs with weak constitutions must be supplemented and given special care. In order to improve the survival rate of winter lambs, attention should be paid to the management of feeding: the use of vacant land to grow green feed, the use of silage straw to supplement ewes and lambs, and the appropriate addition of concentrates; grazing time should be sufficient to ensure adequate nutrition for the lambs. For feeding sheep, exercise should be strengthened and bedding should be changed.

Long-term dry, cold weather in winter can easily cause respiratory infections in lambs, and lambs should be protected from pneumonia. As the climate is cold, if the excrement and bedding are not treated in time, the lambs die of infectious gastrointestinal gastroenteritis due to infection with Escherichia coli, Salmonella, and Clostridium perfringens, causing diarrhea to dehydrate. Therefore, it is particularly important to keep the winter lambs in a clean environment. It is necessary to remove the excrement in time, drink plenty of water, and the density of the sheep is appropriate. Disinfect it regularly with 10% lime water or 30% gray water to keep the sheep house dry and sanitary. Warm, remove the cause of the disease and reduce the incidence of lamb disease.
