Color Sweet is a premium vegetable that has gained popularity in recent years. It comes in six vibrant colors: red, orange, yellow, green, white, and purple. The fruits are large, with an average weight of 150-200 grams and the largest reaching up to 400 grams. Its colorful and eye-catching appearance makes it very appealing to consumers. It is widely used in high-end hotels, restaurants, and as a gift, but also serves well as fresh fruit, in salads, or for cooking. This versatile vegetable has significant market potential for growth.
We have been cultivating Color Sweet in a greenhouse for two years and have successfully scaled up production. We achieved excellent yields and profits, with an output of over 5,000 kg per 667 square meters and a revenue exceeding 20,000 yuan. Here are the key cultivation techniques we use:
1. **Variety Selection**
To meet different consumer demands—such as for fine dining, gifts, or fresh consumption—we select multiple varieties that offer a full range of colors. Each variety has unique characteristics:
- (1) **O.O.O.O. Square Fruit**: Turns bright yellow when mature, with thick and firm pulp. Average size is 10 cm in height and 9 cm in width, weighing around 150 grams.
- (2) **Orange and West Asia Four Ventricles**: Square-shaped, turning bright orange from light green. Average size is 11 cm in height and width, with an average weight of 200 grams.
- (3) **White Notarized Square Fruit**: Strong fruit setting, starting as milk white and turning bright yellow. A new variety with an average weight of 220 grams.
- (4) **Zigui Purple**: Changes to deep purple after fruiting, with strong growth potential. Average weight is about 150 grams.
- (5) **Monia**: Vigorous growth, few branches, cold-resistant, and with thick flesh. Dark red when mature, medium to large in size.
- (6) **Jade Pepper**: Lantern-shaped, slightly pointed at the bottom, with a shiny surface and thick flesh. Resistant to heat and high fruit set.
2. **Seedling Cultivation**
We prepare nutrient-rich soil by mixing 6 parts fertile garden soil with 4 parts organic fertilizer. Add 1-5 kg of NPK compound fertilizer, 50-60 g of phoxim, and 80-120 g of carbendazim per cubic meter. Build seedbeds 1.5 meters wide and 15 cm deep, ensuring a solid base. Soak seeds in 30°C warm water for 6-8 hours, then germinate them at 25-30°C. After sowing, cover with fine soil and a film to protect against pests and disease.
3. **Planting**
Before planting, apply 10-15 m³ of decomposed chicken manure and 50-80 kg of compound fertilizer per 667 square meters. Prepare the land thoroughly, level it, and plow deeply. Cover the greenhouse with plastic film 10 days before planting and raise the temperature. Plant at a density of 2,000 plants per 667 square meters, with spacing of 85 cm between large rows and 65 cm between small rows. Ensure proper root protection during planting and apply mulch to seal the edges.
4. **Greenhouse Management**
After planting, keep the greenhouse warm to encourage root development. Maintain temperatures between 26-30°C during the day and 16-18°C at night. As the plants grow, gradually increase ventilation. In colder months, ensure adequate heating and use reflective screens to improve lighting. Avoid sudden temperature drops and manage watering carefully to prevent root damage. Apply fertilizers like DAP and urea at appropriate times to support fruit development.
5. **Pruning and Fruiting**
Color Sweet has strong growth potential, so pruning is essential to balance vegetative and reproductive growth. Retain 2-3 leaves and 1-2 flowers on each lateral branch, and remove any small or non-developing fruits. Use slings to support the plants and improve air circulation.
6. **Harvesting**
Harvest when the fruits are fully developed, with thick skin and a hard, glossy surface. Cut the stems with scissors to avoid damaging the plant. Arrange the fruits in gift boxes or plastic bags for sale.
7. **Pest Control**
Common pests include aphids and viruses. At the seedling stage, treat with 10g of insect net or 20% Kangfuduo diluted 2000 times. After planting, spray 40% Dimethoate EC at 800-1000 times dilution. For virus prevention, use 20% virus A wettable powder at 500 times and 1.5% plant disease spirit at 1000 times. For fungal diseases, apply 64% antivirus WP at 500 times or 72.2% Preclosure 800 times.
