Migraine does not eat cold drinks in summer

Jacqueline is a patient who has come to visit me in recent years. She suffers from migraines. It is strange that she will be ill when she eats cold ice cream. But in life, who can stop the temptation of ice cream? Very distressed, she found me, hoping I could help her solve the mystery.

At the recent San Francisco Conference on Experimental Biology in the United States, I reported on our new discovery, "New causes of migraine." We refer to headaches caused by excessive consumption of frozen foods such as ice cream as "ice cream headaches." Our study found that "ice cream headache" may be caused by icy foods that cause a sudden change in blood flow to the brain. This finding may help uncover the mystery of migraines and help better understand and treat other types of headaches such as migraines.

In the new study, we asked healthy adults to drink ice water with a straw. One end of the straw was facing the oral cavity in order to induce "ice cream headache." At the same time, we also monitored the cerebral blood flow of all participants. It was found that the real cause of "ice cream headache" was a sudden increase in blood flow to the anterior cerebral artery. When the arteries contract, the "ice cream headache" symptoms will slowly disappear. The brain is one of the most important organs in the human body and must always work properly at all times. The brain is quite sensitive to temperature. Therefore, when the blood flow increases and the blood vessels dilate, warm blood can be input into the brain to warm the brain. The sudden change in blood flow will inevitably create pressure and cause pain.

Migraine is a type of pulsatile headache that recurs. Like cold drinks like ice cream, migraine has some signals worth noting:

1. Irritability, excitement, and depression. Extremely emotional swing is one of the biggest symptoms of migraine. Some patients may feel extremely depressed for no reason. Some patients are extremely prone to irritation, prone to irritability, and some patients are extremely excited. Depression is closely related to migraine.

2. Lack of deep sleep. Patients usually do not sleep well at night, they feel sleepy when they wake up, and migraine attacks are easy.

3. Severe or stinging unilateral or bilateral temples. Pain in one or both temples is one of the typical symptoms of migraine.

4. Noise, odor, and light can aggravate headaches. For example, some patients may experience migraine attacks when they walk through shopping mall perfume counters or smell new paint.

Head unilateral or bilateral numbness or tingling. For example, I feel temporarily missing, or I feel that there are tens of thousands of needles on my head. This sensation may shift from one side of the head to the other, from the tip of the finger to the arm and the entire face, or even multiple attacks.
