Character identification
Fruit spherical or slightly pentagonal spheroid, diameter 2-5mm. The surface is dark green, yellow to brown, rough, with most punctiform or concave oil spots. There is a five-pointed star-shaped fissure at the top, a calyx and pedicel at the base, and yellow-brown hairs. Hard and brittle. The aroma is rich, spicy and bitter. It is better to be plump, greenish and full of aroma. [4]
Microscopic identification
Fruit cross-section: round class, the center is divided into 5 rooms. Exocarp epidermal cells have 1 column, round and well-arranged, mostly containing orange peels; most of the stomata and a few non-glandular and non-glandular hairs are scars. The mesocarp is thick, scattered with fiber bundles and most large oil chambers, with a diameter of 120-180μm. The parenchyma cells contain clusters of calcium oxalate crystals, the innermost pericarp is dense, and the diameter of cluster crystals is 12-16μm. The 4-5 rows of parenchyma cells in the endocarp are oblong and tangentially arranged and smaller than the mesocarp cells. The fruit has 1 seed per chamber and is triangular in shape. The seed coat stone cells are arranged in a palisade-like pattern with thick walls. The seed coat is endosperm tissue. [5]
