I. Symptoms of iron deficiency anemia Iron deficiency anemia in piglets can occur all year round, but it occurs more frequently in winter and spring than in other seasons. Sick pigs are weak, out-of-group, lying, loss of appetite, malnutrition, hair is reversed, body temperature is not high or low, visible mucosa is pale, light ear shells are grayish white, almost no visible blood vessels, acupuncture There is also very little bleeding, breathing, pulse increase, and the initial activity is more than breathing. Some piglets look fatter, and their growth and development are almost normal, but they will suddenly fall to the ground when they are active. Second, preventive measures First of all, we must strengthen the management of sows, more feeds rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, special supplies of iron, copper, zinc and other trace elements. Secondly, it is necessary to supplement the piglets with iron. In the pigsty, you can put some food trays with red soil or dry deep soil to allow the piglets to eat freely. Iron preparations can also be injected. For example, the breeding piglets can be injected at 3 days of age. Iron dextran or iron drill injection to prevent the occurrence of the disease.

1. Oral iron supplement treatment: generally used iron preparations are ferrous sulfate, in addition to iron pyrophosphate, iron lactate, reduced iron and so on. 2. Injection iron preparation: Common iron preparations include iron dextran, iron drill injection, compound calcare injection and sorbitol injection. Under normal circumstances, 2 ml of iron dextran or iron-cobalt injection is usually used for deep intramuscular injection, which is cured once. If necessary, half a muscle injection can be performed once a week.
Fourth, note that in order to get good results in iron, you need to pay attention to the following points:
1. The amount of iron supplement should be suitable: the amount of iron is not enough to achieve the purpose of iron supplementation, and the dosage is too large to inhibit the absorption of other trace elements in the intestine. Excessive absorption of iron can be deposited in certain organs of the body, such as heart, liver, pancreas, etc., which will cause hemoglobin precipitation.
2. During the iron supplementation, some feeds should be temporarily reduced or stopped: calcium feeds such as shell powder, bone meal, calcium carbonate, etc., and feeds containing tannins. But don't feed sorghum, wheat bran, etc., so as not to reduce the iron supplement.
3. Be careful not to use it with certain drugs during iron supplementation: if it contains aluminum, magnesium or calcium, if it meets iron, it will form an insoluble complex or precipitate in the intestine. For example, tetracyclines can form complexes in the presence of iron: chloramphenicol can reduce or invalidate iron elements: acid or anticholinergic drugs, which can affect the absorption of iron: potassium iodide, carbonate, and citrate Precipitating substances can occur when iron is encountered: Vitamin E can be combined with iron to make it ineffective. Do not take these drugs at the same time during the iron supplementation.
4. Prevention of piglet poisoning when using ferrous sulfate: When using ferrous sulfate, open it after the bottle is opened and use it immediately.
