How to culture farm snails
First, constructing the snail pond
A suitable water source is essential—preferably running water that is clean and free from pollution. The pond should be approximately 1.5 meters wide, 10 to 15 meters long, and 30 to 50 centimeters deep. A 20-meter-high embankment is built between the two ponds for easy access and walking. The bottom of the pond is filled with about 10 centimeters of mud to provide a natural environment for the snails. Aquatic plants like white peony, asparagus, water lilies, and duckweed can be planted sparsely to offer shade, shelter, and additional food sources. This helps increase the overall productivity of the pond. A fence or mesh wall around 60 to 80 centimeters high is installed to prevent predators such as birds, cats, and snakes from entering.Second, stocking and managing the snail pond
Each pond can hold about 100 to 120 snails, depending on the species. It’s also possible to introduce 4 summer flowers to enhance the environment. Before introducing the snails, apply a proper amount of organic manure to promote the growth of natural food organisms. After the snails are placed, feed them with leaves, rice bran, soybean cake, vegetable scraps, and animal organs. These feeds should be soaked or softened before feeding, while others should be chopped and mixed. The feeding amount typically ranges from 1% to 3% of the total weight of the snails and is usually done every two to three days. Adjustments are made based on the snails’ growth and feeding behavior.Disease in snails is relatively rare, but daily management focuses on maintaining water quality and preventing predators from entering the pond. Snails thrive in shallow, slow-moving water, so the pond depth should be kept between 25 to 30 centimeters. During breeding season and hot weather, it's important to maintain a continuous flow of water to keep the environment stable and healthy.
Third, harvesting the snails
Snails can be harvested once they reach a weight of over 10 grams. They are collected in batches by draining the pond water and manually gathering them directly from the pond. This method ensures minimal stress on the snails and efficient collection. Regular monitoring and careful handling during this process are crucial for maintaining the health and sustainability of the snail population. This detailed approach not only enhances snail production but also supports a balanced and eco-friendly aquaculture system. We're professional Neuro-Endoscopy Instruments manufacturers and suppliers in China, specialized in providing high quality medical instruments with reasonable price.
