Extending watermelon fresh-keeping period
Watermelon is cheap when it is listed on a large scale, and it can be sold at a higher price if it can be sold in the off-season. The fresh storage technology of watermelon is introduced as follows:
Choose suitable fresh-keeping storage varieties. It is generally required to use thick, tough, late-maturing watermelon seed varieties.
Pre-harvest spraying. About one week before the watermelon harvest, the 70% thiophanate-methyl WP was sprayed 800-1000 times to evenly spray the melon leaves and the watermelon epidermis.
Harvest in advance to prevent injury. Melon takes 70% to 80% when it is ripe to harvest, choose sunny sunny harvest. Each watermelon leaves 10 cm to 15 cm long shoots. The ends of the shoots are crushed with ash or lime powder to eliminate germs and prevent infection. Careful handling when picking, not only to prevent trauma, but more importantly, prevent internal injuries. During picking and transport, prevent bumps, vibrations and squeezing to prevent rot.
Disinfectant. After picking it back, after the dew is dry, soak the watermelon in 15% salt water for 3 minutes to pick up. After drying, wipe the surface of the watermelon with 0.5%-1% potassium sorbate and seal it in polyethylene plastic. Bags.
Put into the cellar or cold storage. Before entering the cellar, the cellar will be cleaned. Every cubic meter is fumigated with 10 grams of sulphur or sprayed with a 150-fold formalin solution and sealed for two days. The watermelon can then enter the pit after ventilation.
Strengthen inspections. The cellar should have “vital eyes†and skylights, be careful of ventilation and heat dissipation during storage, the cellar temperature should be controlled between 5°C and 15°C, and the relative humidity should be kept between 60% and 80%. Ventilation and cooling can be used in the cellar when nighttime temperatures are low. Check every 10 days to remove the watermelon that should not be stored.
