Cherry autumn management grasp two points
Applying basal fertilizer early can significantly enhance the nutrient reserves before winter, ensuring that plants have sufficient nutrients available when needed. September is an ideal time for this, as it aligns with the peak growth period of cherry roots, which greatly improves nutrient absorption. Additionally, this period allows injured roots to recover effectively and encourages the development of new roots. During this time, the primary fertilizers used are farmyard manure, phosphate fertilizer, and a moderate amount of nitrogen fertilizer. For saplings, the fertilizer should be applied under the canopy projection, while for fruit trees, it should be spread throughout the orchard. During the period of crown expansion, saplings typically receive 30 to 50 kilograms of human manure per plant or 5 to 8 kilograms of pure chicken manure. To help promote the early formation of the canopy, about 150 grams of nitrogen fertilizer can be added per plant. Alternatively, 60 to 80 kilograms of human manure or 20 to 30 kilograms of pure chicken manure can also be used.
September is also a critical month for pest and disease control, especially due to the increased rainfall, which creates favorable conditions for the spread of bacteria. It’s important to rotate pesticides during this time to prevent resistance in both pests and pathogens. This practice not only helps reduce the likelihood of resistance but also minimizes the accumulation of pesticide residues in the soil and on crops. Regular monitoring and timely application of different types of treatments can ensure more effective and sustainable pest management. By adopting a proactive approach, growers can protect their crops more efficiently and maintain long-term soil health.
