According to the person in charge of the Food and Drug Administration, after the “Chromium Capsule” incident in 2012, to ensure the safety of food and drugs, the regulatory authorities have been focusing on edible and medicinal gelatin and gelatin products, and increased risk monitoring, routine sampling, and on-site inspections. Check the frequency and intensity of inspections to continuously standardize the order of production and operation. In 2014, the General Administration of Food and Drug Supervision continued to increase supervision, and issued the “Notice on Further Strict Edible Gelatin and Regulation of Using Gelatin” to deploy the use of gelatin for illegal production and sales and the use of industrial gelatin to produce processed foods. To guard against oversight, a number of supervision teams were dispatched to the relevant areas for supervision and inspection.

The State Food and Drug Administration requested that the relevant provincial regulatory authorities make a surprise inspection of the gelatin enterprises within their jurisdiction and contrast them with the previous inspections. They found that the violations were strictly investigated and promptly announced to the public. At the same time, it is required that all localities continue to strengthen supervision over the whole chain of raw materials, purchase, production, sales, etc., and not leave behind any suspicious clues to catch up with the problems found.
