Technical Note: The PURELAB flex unique sterilization method

PURELAB flex series water purifier The importance of regular sterilization

The accumulation of microorganisms in pure water systems has become a major issue (see Technical Note 14 and Technical Note 15). The interior of most pure water systems is a long strip of tubing, fittings, water tanks and filters. They have a large surface area but no chlorine, and despite the ultra-pure water environment with low nutrient content, they can still grow microorganisms. Therefore, it is recommended to add regular sterilization to the maintenance plan. In order to reduce the accumulation of particles, membranes, microorganisms and bacterial by-products, it is recommended that most pure water systems be sterilized on a regular basis.

ELGA's product design ensures that the wetted parts are sterilized in the most simple way possible. Most systems use fast-dissolving chlorine-based tablets and pre-programmed sterilization procedures, but ELGA notes the inconvenience of this sterilization method.

In addition to PURELAB flex , most of ELGA's products are recommended for monthly system-wide sterilization. ELGA LabWater also uses this method for the pretreatment part of PURELAB flex (reverse osmosis technology). PURELAB flex is a new and innovative system, and ELGA's sterilization recommendations reflect this.

Why can I reduce the number of sterilizations of PURELAB flex?

PURELAB flex is a smaller system. The design uses fewer internal tubing and components and a highly efficient UV system, thus reducing the space for membrane accumulation. The terminal filter removes bacteria and endotoxins if used as recommended.

Bacteria will still grow inside any pure water system. Therefore, if the experiment is sensitive to microorganisms, the system should be monitored and sterilized to prevent the bacteria from being too high and affecting the effect of the terminal filter.

PURELAB flex uses a unique, easy-to-use sterilization procedure with a low frequency of sterilization (once a year).

15 minutes sterilization, no waste water
PURELAB flex's sterilizing program is simple and cleans all wet equipment components including handles and water intake points. The biocide and quencher are contained in a safe, sterile column. By removing the purification column, the sterilization column can be easily placed in place. The sterilization procedure can be easily selected from the water intake arm. The full program takes less than 15 minutes. No chemical waste is produced because the absorption and neutralization of the fungicide is carried out in the sterilization column.
