How to shear sheep

Wool is a major by-product of sheep and is cut once a year from May to June. Fine-wool sheep and semi-fine wool sheep usually cut their hair once a year. The shag sheep can be cut twice a year. In addition to spring, they can be cut again from September to October.

Sheep shearing is divided into mechanical shearing and manual shearing. Large-scale and intensified pastures usually use mechanical shearing, which is fast and saves time and labor; manual sheep shearing is still common in small-scale sheep farms.

When shearing the hair manually, scissors, whetstones, mats, hemp ropes, and iodine should be prepared before the shearing. The breeding ground also needs to be weighed and recorded.

Fasting shears are safer. Shearing sheep do not grazing, feeding and drinking, generally choose a sunny, windless, shearing in the morning.

When shearing hair, first bind the left and right forelimbs of the sheep with a rope, so that the sheep is lying on the left side, and the shearing staff is squatting on the back of the sheep. The back ribs of the sheep are cut straight forward, and then the abdomen and chest are cut in parallel directions. The hair, then cut the front and rear legs, always cut the sheep's half hair. Use the same method to cut the other side of the hair.

When cutting hair, the scissors should be laid flat and close to the sheep's skin so that the hair can be kept short and tidy. If you don't cut it neatly, don't cut it. During the shearing process, care should be taken not to cut the skin. Once it is cut, it should be sterilized with iodine to prevent infection.
