After 40 years of age, vision will gradually decline. With the natural loss of near vision and opacity of the lens, many people will have presbyopia or cataract symptoms. However, with reading glasses is uncomfortable and inconvenient, the American ophthalmic medical equipment company AcuFocus used this as an entry point, using the small aperture effect, successfully launched KAMRA corneal inlay and IC-8 intraocular lens, bringing the gospel to presbyopia and cataract patients .

Recently, AcuFocus received approximately $66 million in financing from KKR, the world's leading investment company. AcuFocus will use the funds to accelerate the commercialization of KAMRA corneal inlays and IC-8 intraocular lenses, and to use its small aperture expertise to further advance research and development of the project, and to promote the company as a global market leader in the treatment of presbyopia and cataracts. .

AcuFocus was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in California. The company's proprietary technology platform uses a small aperture effect that allows only focused light to reach the retina to see the item, a reliable, long-lasting technical result. Using the concept of small apertures, the company developed two products: the company's flagship product, the KAMRA corneal inlay and the innovative IC-8 intraocular lens.

KAMRA is smaller and thinner than contact lenses. It is a small, centrally-opened product with a diameter of only 3.8 mm and a 1.6 mm opening in the middle for safe attachment to the cornea. The central aperture allows only the focused light to enter the eye, allowing light to reach the back of the eye directly from the front of the eye, extending the range of natural vision. The 8,400 tiny air holes around the central aperture allow oxygen and nutrients to flow freely through the eye. The user only needs to put the product in one eye, so that one eye can see the distance, one eye can see the near side, and the two eyes can cooperate to see the object from near to far, achieving the effect of laser vision correction than single eye. More lasting. Currently, KAMRA is used in 50 countries including the United States.

IC-8 is a hydrophobic acrylic lens with an embedded opaque ring cover with small holes in the middle. Designed for cataract patients, this intraocular lens provides a range of vision from near to far and is a complement to KAMRA. The IC-8 IOL has been CE certified (the “CE” mark is a safety certification mark and is considered a passport opened by the manufacturer and entering the European market), but has not been approved by the US FDA. The current IC-8 intraocular lens is undergoing post-marketing clinical evaluation in numerous clinics around the world.
