Endoscopic surgery for nasal cancer is the same as direct vision surgery

A new study shows that endoscopic surgery can be used as a new option for the treatment of olfactory neuroblastoma (nasal cancer), with the same efficacy as traditional direct vision surgery.

Researchers at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center conducted a pooled analysis of 23 studies involving 361 patients with olfactory neuroblastoma from 1992 to 2008. The overall treatment outcome has a relevant record. Patients were classified according to treatment, and Kaplan-Meier survival curves and Mann-Whitney U test survival were used.

The researchers found that surgical treatment achieved better therapeutic outcomes and survival than non-surgical treatment. Log-rank test showed that postoperative survival rate was higher than that of open surgery. There was no significant difference in follow-up time. In addition, according to the way of tumor staging treatment, large tumor treatments are often treated with direct vision, but direct vision and endoscopic treatment are comparable in terms of survival.
